MLS Recap: NY beats LA, TFC sets record, Sporting loses at home

Toronto FC 0-2 D.C. United

Toronto FC just can't find a win.

The club now has eight straight losses to start the MLS season, with the latest coming on Saturday at the hands of D.C. United by a 2-0 scoreline. The run sets a league record for the worst start in history.

Chris Pontius and Hamdi Salihi did the damage for United, with Pontius hitting a rocket that would be the eventual winner in the 55th minute.

Salihi put the match to bed in the 75th. A cleared corner was sent back in and the substitute did very well to knock it home, leaving Toronto with little chance of avoiding the record breaking defeat.

Toronto will stay without a win in the league until at least May 19, when the club travels to D.C. for the reverse of this fixture. United will be back in league action next week as the team heads to Houston to play in the opener of the new BBVA Compass Stadium.
